Vocational education: Sino-American Economics of Training

Washington,DC school system officials are upgrading vocational education, renaming it career and technical education and incorporating a college-prep track as reported by briefing published by the WashPost,May 13, 2008 on page B4.

For elaborations in details, the following references are recommended:

1. Keys for Economic Understanding. 1971.

2. Keys to Economic Understanding. 1976. Cf. www.ask.com for information.

The guidelines call for more rigorous courses to better prepare students for college, especially the role of community colleges as stressed by US Presidential candidates in their campaign speeches to solve the unemployment problems having marketable skills. British Prime Minister cited the same at C-Span Radio lately. No wonder "Keys for Economic Understanding" is published in UK as well. The book is listed at www.Borders.com when clicking on Used Books.

It is a known fact that China needs gray-collar workers,i.e. paraprofessionals;neither white collar, nor blue collar workers especially in major cities such as Shanghai as I read the reports.

Introducing Jim Webb's "A Time to Fight" - Reclaiming a Fair and Just America. Senator Jim Webb tells his remarkable story and sets forth bold ideas to get America back on track again. It is provocative, power and personal since he is a proud member of a working class family, a decorated Marine who rose to become Secretary of the Navy and a US Senator. He expects to close the gap between the very rich and the middle class. My comment: I believe that the middle class is the background of any nation. That maybe the common cause for USA and China in the 21st century.
Here we can see the common goal to train the skilled labor as human capital for humanity apropos of globalization.

Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao,an advocate for skilled labor training in the United States and in China for the same cause. Purdue University sponsors apprenticeship conference annually and I support such efforts to upgrade labor from ordinary folks regardless the economic systems. May 23, 2008
