Sino-American Economics to be intertwined with Japan-China's new relations

WashPost,May 10, 2008 page A9: China has become Japan's largest trading partner, with the trade volume between the two nations at $236 billion last year. More than 20,000 Japanese firms operate in China, many of them selling precision equipment and industrial materials that are essential to its export-driven boom. China is destined to be the preeminent economy in Asia, and this week's state visit by President Hu of China signals the Japanese government's acceptance of that inexorable trend. My comment: Such new relationship should be noted by the American businesses by reason of competition since Japanese science and technology are superior as evidenced by auto industry and other electronic products as well. Trade relations by virtue of the Law of Comparative Advantage should be known to leaders in the United States in the days to come. My vision was published by "Kuai Bao" in Hong Kong in April 5, 1990 when I was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Hong Kong. That was 18 years ago!
