Metaphor as Lingonomics:WashPost,May 6,09 p.A10

FED Chairman Bernanke said: "We expect that the recovery will only gradually gain momentum and that economic slack will diminish slowly." Do we know such as well?

Brian Bethune,Chief US financial economist at IHS Global commented:" he is also saying that there are major issues still out there, and they want to make sure there are no alligators out in the weeds there that are going to jump out." Good metaphor!

Well, political necessity of official optimism!? There are those who don't know and those who don't know they don't know. We are being reminded by the aphorism from Prof.John K. Galbraith. Who really knows? Empirical evidence is what we would like to see in the days to come. Fair enough.
