Harlan Cleveland; Author and Lifelong Learner with fun

Washington Post,June 6, 2008 page B7: Cleveland hated the ubiquitous valediction "Have a nice day!" In China: "Nihao!" But the response would be: "Nihao" as well. Sounds like an echo!? Are they really OK? It is a matter of traditional expression! "Hao" of "buhao" is certainly a matter of conjecture!

"What I want is exciting days, passionate days, blessed days, wondrous days, surprising days," He suggested to his listeners an alternative response:
"Thanks you, but I have other plans." He has great humor, indeed!

Mr. Cleveland explored how global governance was increasingly being influenced by the ever-shifting interplay of a growing list of participants: not only governments, but also multinational corporations foudations and non-state actors. How true!

He as president of the University of Hawaii fro 1969 to 1974. During that time, the university added a medical school, a law school and an international astronomy project. He later became a philosopher by virtue of his seasoned maturity.
