Farmers Insurance and other items of interest

Farmers offered to match donations made by Farmers employees, agents and district managers, their friends and families up to $100,000 to help those affected by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake. Mercy Corps and the Red Cross Society of China were selected to receive donations. After I read such news,I remember the following:

I did statistical work at Farmers from Nov. 1951 to December 1952 before accepting a teaching offer to the Army Language School,Monterey, California. Time goes like an e-mail. It is 2008 now, more than half a century ago as my own personal history.

First group of Chinese tourists arrived in US under new pact. According to the Department of Commerce, Chinese travelers spend about $6,000 per visit to the US,more than any other foreign tourists. It is a boost to US economy.

The Bush administration plans to prop up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It is likely to cost taxpayers less than $25 billion. A further collapse in the housing market would require an infusion of $100 billion oor more according to Chief Budget Analyst. Washington Post published on July 23, 2008 on page D1.
