Economics with confidence as our faith

WashPost,July 21, 2008 page B1 with photo: Gas prices are too high for a day trip to Dewey Beach. This is not how young folks imagined life with driver's license at age 18. As the nation's unprecedented jump in gas prices takes a toll across the region, many teenagers say they are feeling the pinch.

My comment: In China, very few teenagers have cars but they ride bikes for transportation with the benefit for exercise plus good health.

That is the difference in lifestyle and culture apropos of economics.

WashPost,July 20, 2008 page B2: A priest professor walks into Qatar and lead the students through a version of Georgetown's traditional theology course. I still remember epistemology, cosmology and ontology in 1940s. Young folks understand what it is to live one's life with a commitment rooted in faith. Folks tell students that they should take more economics courses. My comment: There can be a common ground in economics and faith. Economics may be based on faith since financial stability is in doubt and we should have faith in our nation with confidence especially Sino-American economics of cooperation and collaboration for mutual benefit in the 21st century.
