Farm subsidy: Concern for USA and China

US took the first bold step of crunch time trade talks, slicing $1.4 billion from a previous offer to limit contentious, trade-distorting subsidies to American farmers. US Trade Representative told news conference that Washington was prepared to rewrite elements of its passed farm bill to ensure that US subsidies deemed to unfairly enhance the competitiveness of American farmers are limited to $15 billion annually. WashPost published on July 23, 2008 on page D6.

CCTV-4 reported that Chinese leaders are paying special attention to farmers for their living conditions with subsidies to improve their standard of living.

Both nations are concerned about farmers but China's farmers occupy a significant portion of the population. There is a difference as I would envision. Your comments are invited.
