Library of Congress to receive 3,000 boks under China project

The Library of Congress has begun to receive donated books from the National Library of China through the Windows of China Project. A memo was signed in January to formalize the project. Under the agreement, the National Library of China will donate 3,000 publications to the Library of Congress through 2010. The Chinese collection, which began in 1869 with a gift of 933 books from Chinese Emperor Tong-Zhi (1862-1974) as part of an exchange authorized by the Congress, now totals close to 1 million volumes.
