Chinese characters: Simplified and traditional

Both traditional and simplified forms are taught at FSI because China has adopted the simplified form to popularize to the folks in China with good reasons but traditional form in Hong Kong and Taiwan for those who have learned the traditional form in the past. I studied the traditional form when I was a university student in China from 1943-46 but I was interested in the simplified form when I was doing research at The RAND Corporation, Santa Monica,California and published "A Glimpse of the Chinese Language" in English in 1965 for English-speaking folks to update about such changes. UN will adopt the simplified form for the visitors to be aware the simpfied form in China. United States: There is one China and Taiwan is a part of China. That is in the same line of reasoning as my studies in China from 1943-46 before 1949 re PRC.
