"Kung Fu Panda" hits China: Made in Hollywood,USA

Such movie follows a slacker panda named Po, who works in his father's noodle shop and eventually fulfills his dream of being a kung fu fighter, and features the voices of Hollywood stars Jack Black and Angelina Jolie. It is taken in $350 million at theaters world-wide.

I wish to point out the Pin Yin system of romanization should be "Gongfu" instead of "Kungfu" but the established Wade-Gile system lingers in the minds of lots of folks world-wide.

Washington Post,July 12, 2008 page A3: Senator Obama defends comments on learning other languages: Americans need to learn more foreign languages. I am sure when learners study phonetic equivalents,Pin Yin system would be studied and more folks would be familiar with Pin Yin system of romanization in the 21st century.

Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao, published "A Glimpse of the Chinese Language" (1965)dedicated to all who wish to learn the comparisons of varied systems of romanization and the simplified Chinese language plus the traditional form of the Chinese characters. Simplified Chinese would save time in the name of economic development. Economizing time would be the goal for folks nowadays! July 12, 2008 at 3.40 p.m.

A physicist and an economist apropos of philosophy

Einstein said that a person either lives as if nothing is a miracle, or lives as if everything is a miracle.

Xie cited: Faith,Hope and Love plus UCO in re Upbeat,Cheer and Optimism.

Einstein has the well-known equation: E=MC square in physics.

Xie quoted Economics: Equilibrium is not equal to Material Consumption over Desire.(Cf.previous blogs for more details) Learning may be 9/10th learning to think and feel fully. Only 1/10 learning to write. As homosapiens,we go through life and embrace with passion as per our interest for fun in our mindsets.

The Option is yours!

It is on me to bring order to the confusion when and if there is such encounter but EQUANIMITY is the Mantra!

It costs nothing to wear a smile with laughter to beget longevity with spirituality. All of us are being tested and we can pass the tests as long as we believe with faith. We need to keep priorities in check.

Army soldiers are Olympic hot shots

Washpost,July 9, 2008 page E1: Countdown to Beijing:
Fort Benning,Ga. - US Army sharpshooter ,19-year old skeet competitor, headed to his first Olympics in August, knows that he must sustain that perfectin to clinch a gold medal.

WashPost,July 8,08 page F6:

"Tai chi(T'aichi Ch'uan" may help elderly have fewer restless nights" "Chi" in Pin Yin system would mean "eat" or "tooth" or other characters in Chinese. It should be "Taiji" for the Chinese movement in boxing. The Wade-Gile system may be OK similar to Kungfu but it should be "Gongfu" in Pin Yin system of romanization.

It would be useful to learn the Pin Yin system since it is the official sytem and has been used at the US Library of Congress www.loc.gov. For comparisons,Cf."A Glimpse of the Chinese Language" in English www.Amazon.com online book catalog or www.rand.org for educational understanding.

Carlyle Invests in Chinese Firm

Washington Post, July 8, 2008 page D4: Communication is the key to satisfaction.

Carlyle Group, the DC private-equity firm run by David Rubenstein, said it will invest $87 million in privately owned Sinorgchem,a Chinese maker of chemical used in rubber products.

Sinorgchem is the biggest Chinese supplier of para-phenylenediames (PPDs), a key chemical additive used to make rubber products, Carlyle said. China's consumption of rubber is driven by growing local automobile markets and increasing relocation of global tire production capacities to China. PPDs are important in tire production, as they can prevent premature aging of rubber, the statement said.

The RAND Corporation and Honolulu Stories

Washington Post,Book World,July 6, 2008:
Page 4: RAND, the think tank in sunny Santa Monica. The reviewer is a Professor at the University of California. I was a member of the research staff at the Department of Economics from Jan. 1964 to September 1965 before coming to Washington to work for NSF project for American scientists to have contacts with Chinese scientists. "Directory of Chinese Scientic Research Institutions" was published by Hoover Institution,Stanford University,1971. I published "A Glimpse of the Chinese Language" in March 1965 for Westerners to have understanding of the Chinese language via Pin Yin system initially. My colleague and friend Richard Moorsteen published "Remaking China Policy",Harvard University Press,1971. His vision is being realized now in the 21st century and beyond.

Unfortunately,he passed away in his 70s and a new Police Station was dedicated to honor him in downtown Honolulu.

Sino-American Economics in Energy

Washington Post,July 4th,2008 on page D3: AES buys stake in Chinese wind farm:

AES boughty 49% of a wind farm owned by Guohua Energy Investment in China's Inner Mongolia region for $10 million to tap rising demand for renewable power in the world's second largest energy consumer. The Guohua Hulunbeier Wind Farm, which started commercial operations in September, has a capacity of 49.5 megawats. AES, a power producer based in Arlington, aims to benefit from China's goal to become the world's top wind power producer in five years. I ranks 6th now.

Here is another evidence of positive Sino-American Economics.

Paulson makes case for reforms:WashPost,7/3/08

Page D2: Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr. said the United States must build a tougher regulatory system that can allow financial institutions to fail without causing wider economic turbulence. In a speech in London, Paulson said tht US Federal Reserve needs sweeping new powers that would make it easier to get information on financial institutions - and to intervene if necessary. My comment: Such is the expansion of the public sector over the private sector, the mix of both sectors. Sino-American Economics re stragetic economic dialogue would strengthen the public sectors over the private sector in US-China economic relations. Reflecting American history, the New Deal under FDR was a case in point for the wellbeing of the people in the United States. I have reason to believe that a new president after January 20, 2009 would stress the public sector for the wellbeing of the people in USA. Today is July 4th,National Holiday in USA for Americans deserving life, liberty and pursuit of happiness with decent living. Nobody would impugn, indeed!
