"Grade 4: Reading of classic myths from a variety of cultures." Chinese culture in Asia may be included when authors are interested to cover Asia for World civilization.
"Grade 5: Identify how metaphors and similes as well as rhymes and other repetitions of sounds supply meaning and rhythm in a specific verse of stanza for a poem." It is known that analogy,sayings,motto and aphorism do appear in the Chinese language and literature or poetry for elementary school students in China. I remember when I had such educational opportunity in 1930s.

I taught English in Shanghai, China,1945-1947 and also taught Chinese language(Mandarin and Wu dialect i.e. Shanghainese) in USA from 1950s to October 31,2009. For cultural literacy in science,I lectured Economic science for my English classes in Guangzhou,Beijing,Shanghai and Nanjing, China from 1981 to 2002 for practical needs of the students in China and in the United States.
Page C10: Tai Shan, the giant panda born at the National Zoo, made his first public appearance in China after being kept in quarantine for a month after his trip from Washington.
At Zoo, the baby panda watch goes on for Tai Shan's mother,Mei Xiang. "Mei Xiang" in Pin Yin means fragrant America. "Mei guo" means beautiful America or America,the beautiful. How fitting and proper for the Chinese language to describe USA with the positive approach.
China i.e."Zhong guo" meaning the Middle Kingdom which may be another Kingdom being sought by folks of all faith. "Zhong hua ren min gong he guo" i.e. People's Republic of China for the reason being the most populous nation in the world. Such nomenclasure is also fitting and proper.
USA and China would work together for climate change and building railways to make contributions for humanity.
