The best friend/relative/colleague is thought of in admiring terms as genuine,but there are those who perceive the fawning or dog-eat-dog situations. The Latin verb "adulari" i.e. "to fawn on," they equated it with the behavior of a dog toward its master e.g.tail wagging to mind. Adulation means exhibition of overly excessive fondness,similar to adoration at best.
Such words are loaded with philosophical underpinning in the real world of pragmatism.(sic)
