"The Stuff of Thought" Language as a window into human nature

Steven Pinker published the above work at Viking. 499 pp. $29.95
Language comes so naturally to us that it is easy to believe there is some sort of intrinsic logic connecting the thing and its name, the signifier and the signified. Human language is an emanation of the human mind. A thing does not care what we call it. Words and their rules don't tell us about the world; they tell us about ourselves. "Mingzhengyanshun" in Pin Yin as a Chinese idiom/adage to mean the correct words for the true nomenclature. I have reached the conclusion after six decades+ of studying the Chinese and the English languages: Western linguists are not familiar with the Chinese language and there is the missing link, indeed. However, there is the common ground of such meeting ground as I tried to make comparisons of the thoughts of Aristotle,Plato with Confucius and Mencius decades ago. Such is the unfinished project for thoughtful scholars to pursue the significant synthesis in terms of globalization for the West to meet the East in the 21st century ad infinitum for world peace via languages. Dictyon.net is the gateway to global languages. Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao. Dec.29, 2007
