"The problem with economists with the purer strain of free-market economics associated with the University of Chicago is not simply that it failed to predict the near collapse of the world financial system last year. The problem is that it believed such a collapse could not happen, that all risk could be quantified by mathematical models and that these quantifications could help us correctly price just about everything.(sic) Professor Galbraith challenged such and I do concur.
Every nation, no matter its economic or political system, has followed Keynes's prescription for combating a major downturn increasing public spending to fill the gap created by the decline of private spending. That is why the world economy seems to be inching back from collapse and why the nations that have spent the most, China in particular, seems to be recovering fastest."
Comment: The Keynesian Cross Model can be found in China's crossroads with externalities.
In the 1970s, economist Robert Lekachman observed that economics students had to master so much mathematics that they became emotionally invested in teh idea that the math they had learned explained - had to explain - the universe. It is high time to call for courses in macroeconomics with another disciple - history or psychology - to expose the comolexities of human institutions." I have sent my blogs in the past to stress human behavior and philosophy of life to understand the nature of economics.
"If mainstream economics does not change, it may eventually face the worst of all fates: market failure. How many students want to spend their lives quantifying a world that does not exist?"

Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao, a friend of Professor John K. Galbraith, had the same reasoning and raised such query more than three decades ago. Delighted to see the article sharing the identical rationale today. Sept. 30, 2009 at 5.32 p.m.

Purposeful character with faith, hope and LOVE
Longevity with a goal in the mundane world would mean a health boost guided by reason to get out of bed everyday for folks in USA and in China.
Faith is the mental strategy to elevate cheer with upbeat apropos of Sino-American Economics.
Hope is to draw from the positive scenarios via the brain for intellectual endeavor.
LOVE is a slosh of dopamine over a caudate nucleus. Such could be in Pin Yin system of romanization in Chinese for "All or both anticipate sensitivity" with three Chinese characters of Dou-Pan-Min. In plain English to mean to spread liquid to central nerve as transmitter. Showing affection toward people on both sides of the Pacific in the name of humanity.
Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao, thanking you from a hero of poetry in name only.

Google likes equations RE < C That means Renewable Energy costing less than Coal. This is energy conservation as a way of life. But I have a modest suggestion:
I would argue that C < REM That means Consumption is less than the Reformed Mind.
We must brace" simplicity as our lifestyle" e.g., to reform our mindset during financial crisis.
Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao, an octogenarian student of economic philosophy, advocating life of simplicity instead of complexity apropos of economic utility(satisfaction) in the 21st century.

Ten Points/Pointers for readers with my thoughts
1. We can only fly by embracing each other as angels with only one wing.(sic)
2. When others throw bricks at the person,he/she can lay a firm foundation with success.
3. What lies before or behind us are petty things to be compared to what lies within our hearts and minds.
4. Rice is a major ingredient to be fermented to make the Japanese drink known as sake. Perhaps it is like life in the mundane world with profound reflections.
5. The neck in the body is the thyroid gland. It has no bearing with necking, however.
6. Baseball pitcher Jim Palmer is the only Hall of Famer to notch World Series wins in three decades. Baltimore Orioles won in 1966, 1970 and 1971 and in 1983 when I was a witness.
7. We use the word "stumped" to mean defeated or outwitted. But in playing cricket, the pitcher who manages to hit the wicket (or stump) has outwitted the batter. C'est la difference!
8. Gibraltar, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, natives speak Rock English, a blend of Spanish and English. Rock English has nothing to do with Rock Fish.
9. Red Sea comes by its name properly and occasionally when severe algae blooms. However, when algae die, it turns the seas's vivid, blue-green water red. Red Sea may mean good luck due to the bright color with Asian heritage.
10. A husband thinks that he "bossess" the house but he"houses" the boss. The owner of a house may be addressed as the boss but the wife may be properly addressed as the homemaker instead of a housewife. The rhyme may be "what a life without a wife" Comment: If or when the boss is gone,be a Socrates as the philosopher. Confucius was a moral philosopher with the same caliber known to the world.

An Apple a day keeps the doctor away!
Eating an apple in the morning is like hitting the gold mine.
Eating an apple around noon is like getting valuable silver.
Eating an apple in the evening is like having bronze or copper as precious metal.
The above saying is cited from the Shanghai expressions for your reference.

Reflectng new global economic order, more expansive G-20
Washington Post,September 25, 2009 Page A16: G-20 ranks include nations such as Brazil, China, India and South Africa - all of which have expanded their economies at a meteoric pace in the past two decades.
The spirit of transformation is what inspired President Obama to choose Pittsburgh as the summit site. The city has reinvented itself from one heavily dependent on the steel industry to one with vibrant clean-technology, finance and health care sectors.

Todd Grimshaw stated further: "Racism isn't just an attitude, it's a mental illness. The numbers of racists might be shrinking but the anger and rhetoric of those who remain are going up to alarming levels. Rational Americans have to address this undercurrent of racism at every opportunity. " Comment: Two Asian-American tenured professors taught in the same department in the same college for 17 and 18 years; one was forced to resign and the other was terminated by an associate dean with authority. It is to be noted that one student put down in the evaluation form:"X is Japanese and he does not belong here." The persons with clout took it seriously to get rid of two Asian Americans in 1983 and 1984 respectively.
It is high time to be aware of the multi-cultural America from Guam,Hawaii,Alaska of the Pacific to the Atlantic for USA in the same melting pot as Americans regardless of color, age, national origan, religion et al. That is good for the nation in the 21st century.
