USAToday,August 3, 2009 page 3B

"The International Economy," a quarterly magazine asked economists and policy analysts to assign a letter grade to Obama's performance on:

Inflation B-

Economic Growth B-

Employment C+

Trade C

The online readers are expected to explore concrete and specific evidence of economic performance.(To be verified in due course of time. A pre-ranking case is subject to change without notice.)

I would like to rectify the above evaluation from traditional and outdated psyche to:

Grades A&A since A stand for Amity and Assumption.

Grades B&B as B imply Benevolence and Betterment.

As a faculty of Macroeconomics covering all the above topics for more than four decades,I would claim to be a seasoned evaluator with proper judgment with fairness and justice plus objectivity.

Instant reactions to an ad from HP products

"Hey Mom and Dad. I may not be an Econ. major but I totally understand VALUE."-Such is an ad for HP Computer Sales Pitch. Quandary would be in the minds of netizens in USA and in China.

I raise my queries for "VALUE" as follows:

1. Material worth? Estimated?

2. Spiritual utility(satisfaction)? Hard to utter!?

3. Qualitative dimension? Difficult to count!

4. Quantitative data? No exact numbers!

5. To be appraised? How? When?

6. To be assessed? Where? What? By whom?

7. To be evaluated? How often? Time lag!?

8. What is the precise meaning of Value? What is the true value of anything?

9. Is such value truthful?

10. Truth is multi-dimensional in Economics so there is no pat answer.

ELAN is my motto i.e. "huoli" in Pin Yin as "zuoyouming"

Life is a matter of perception and reception. You better believe it as I do.

I always remember the aphorism of the Clout of Life to be elated for daily living in the mundane world.

To think positively is beneficial for our mindset as a part and parcel of Economics for mental health apropos of Americans and Chinese on earth for globalization.

The late Stan Lebergott,93,an economist and a professor

Washington Post book critic Jonathan Yardley praised Lebergott's lucidity, wit and forthrightness. Lebergott argues that the great American shopping spree is not mere self-indulgence but an essential part of what has been a remarkably successful pursuit of happiness.

Comment: Happiness is NOT material consumption over desire only, intellectual pursuit, spiritual satisfaction and good health must be added for the ultimate goal in life as I sent my previous blogs. Moreover, such culture may be abused with the credit system as we are witnessing the negative impact of consumer's debt of the American economy.

However, his book entitled "Manpower in Economic Growth" stressing the labor force as the center of economics, not the bloodless agents of economic model would be legacy to students of economics. Output is the function of Delta Labor Force Development via training and retraining. "Keys for Economic Understanding" is dedicated to the same rationale. Cf. book category of www.Amazon.com for reference.

Insightful info to be shared with readers online in humor

The Economist magazine,July 31,2009 page 8:

Bank of America reported a $3.2 billion profit based mostly on one-time gains, such as selling part of its stake in China Construction Bank. Business is good for American bankers especially investment bankers to offer financial capital to the entrepreneurs in China in the 21st century.
My prediction may or may not be my dream which may or may not be realized.(sic)

NEWSWEEK magazine, August 3, 2009 page 64:

Howcome Goldman is making billions and I'm still broke? Here's Goldman's playbook for surviving calamity and coming out on top.

Work Uncle Sam: In 2008, while the market was tanking, Goldman spent $3.3 million lobbying the government to fend off regulation. It helps when former CEO Hank Paulson is Treasury Secretary. Connection pays everywhere i.e."Guanxi" in Pin Yin system of romanization.

Gamble with other people's money: Sitting on billions from taxpayers, gambling $245 million a day. Revenue from trading equities alone jumped 100% in the 2nd quarter, accounting for much of that $3.44 billions.

Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao, an innocent bi-stander watching all the money goes from the little guys to the big fellows with clout. That is not untrue and nobody would impugn.

I am inclined to have my positive attitude in the ligher vein: Hehehahahoho all the way,we can strive to be centenarians to witness such drama being unfolded everyday with fun...

Warming Relations:USA & China

Washington Post, August 2, 2009 on page A20 Editorial:

US and China are making noteworthy progress on climate change.

The Obama adminisgtration treats China not as a supplicant but as a strategic partner. It has cabinet clout as secretaries Hillary Clinton(State), Gary Locke(Commerce) and Steven Chu(Energy) have all jumped in to bring China along as a key ally in the process.

Mr. Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao will meet in Beijing in November. China and the United States are finally working together.

The above reality is in line with my focus on positive economic relations of two nations for the mutual benefit in the years to come in the 21st century. Cf. www.Sino-American Economics for my thoughts and views.
