Papal China Commission: Pope Benedict XVI continues to pay significant attention to China. The Commission held its first meeting in Rome, March 10-12, 2008. The meeting had as its theme the Letter which the Holy Father sent to Chinese Catholics on 27 May 2007. In His letter, the will for a respecful and constructive dialogue with the authorities was reiterated. He mentioned the forthcoming event of 24 May, the Universal Day of Prayer for the Church in China.

Greg Tobin, a Benedict biographer, said that he has discussed recently with colleagues and friends whether the President might convert. "Some American Catholics are beginning to wonder whether President Bush might be headed into that direction after his term of office expires," Tobin, a senior adviser for communications at Seton Hall University said,"I would not be surprised."
