The New Yorker, April 28, 2008 Welcome to Beijing

Evan Osnos, Beijing bureau chief for the Chicago Tribune on China's race to learn Crazy English when the crowd was rapt by the unusual approach in teaching and learning English with high volume of sound. My comment: There should be equal opportunity for Americans to learn Chinese. "A Glimpse of the Chinese Language" in English is hereby dedicated for such purpose. Cf. www.Amazon.com online book catalog for reference. The founder of Crazy English Li Yang's slogan:"Conquer English to make China stronger." with huckster nationalism via loudness in speaking English. To the founder, such means of shouting might energize personal moxie leading to national power. But loudness is socially unacceptable without proper etiquette. My recommendation for English-speaking folks to learn Chinese with the following buzzwords:"Study Chinese to make USA,UK and other nations to be understood to dovetail Chinese culture for mutual benefit without chauvinism or jingoism." Globalization and some of its contents would mean: "One Human Race,One World and One Dream" for Olympics in Beijing 2008 with positive language exchange opportunities without huckster nationalism in the 21st century.
