USA Scene: Shoppers scrimp and save as per Radio WTOP on Sat.,Sept.6,2008. Lots of layoffs and job trimming. Jobs were lost and folks are not doing well at all. Economists David Blake found that beer consumption,unlike other categories of alcoholic beverages,increases with unemployment in the United Kingdom. The study also showed that beer is "income inelastid" i.e. less income does not translate into spending less on beer. My comment: Green tea is far better than beer for our health.
Beijing welcomes the disabled. "Chinese government and society tends to treat the disabled with condescension, treating them like a charity case instead of giving them equal respect." said Meng Weinan,head of Beijing-based Huiling Community Service for the disabled. Meng blamed the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s and 70s, which ruptured family ties and smashed Confucian traditions. After the liberation of China, the government launched movements which broke harmonious relationships. However,the reforms of China now restore those lost part of our culture." She said.
