Commentary by an inquisitive would-be economist

How to cope with global warming, peak oil, inequality, and a growing sense of isolation? Economists have missed a simple answer. We need to create in-depth ways and means for international independence and to sustain food and other human resources in the 21st century. What is the economy for? Aiming at the wellbeing of individuals and the societies as a whole? Both micro and macro views are to be watched thoroughly. The cult (devotion or admiration)of growth and globalization has been challenged by thoughtful thinkers. To have more may not be synonymous with betterment! On the contrary, the opposite may be realistic. Let us watch the developments in China and in USA to make comparisons in the days to come for comparative studies as lifelong students of economics for intellectual utility. Your input/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 4.35 a.m.
