The 21st century focuses the Pacific for USA and China

East Asia is of greatest significance to the United States. Such region may be thousands of miles away but the USA has long had interests as the Near West rather than the European term of the Far East, a misnomer, indeed! Look at the map and we can be reminded that America's day starts at Guam. Needless to say,Hawaii is the paradise of the Pacific of the United States and Alaska may be pronounced as "A la shi jie" in Pin Yin system of romanization i.e. "Our World" in the Wu dialect,Shanghainese as serendipity in humor.(sic)

Economically the U.S. has had interest in trade with that region than with any other parts in the world. Militarily, two of the last three major wars the US has fought were in East Asia, and the nation continues to be heavily involved in fighting terrorism globally for security. Socially and philosophically, increasing immigrants to the United States may be traced to Asia as known in the past decades. Moreover, Asian Americans have made contributions to the USA on record. Such impact is noted by the leaders in America for understanding the global context especially in the fields of finance and economics. Given the rapid ecoomic growth of the world's most populous nation,China,it becomes an important partner as President Obama stated at the Strategic Economic Dialogue.

Francis Shieh a.k.a. Xie Shihao meaning thanks from an outspoken person of poetry in the Chinese characters in Pin Yin but not a poet at all. I am always a learner of American English and American culture ad infinitum. Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 5.52 a.m.
