Energy: US,Chinese firms plan Texas wind farm

Washington Post, Oct.30, 2009 page A12: US and Chinese firms plan to build one of the largest US wind farms, a $1.5 billion project in Texas that would generate enough electricity for 180,000 homes. Good news for American home owners, indeed!

The US Renewable Energy Group, a private equity firm based in Washington, and Cielo Wind Power, a closely held wind developer in Austin, formed the Joint venture with China's Shenyang Power Group, according to a statement. A Power Energy Generation Systems, based in China and Shenyang's largest shareholder, will supply the turbines.

The planned 600-megawatt farm marks the biggest Chinese-American investment in US renewable energy, the companies said. It will be built in West Texas across 36,000 acres and be funded by Chinese comercial banks. - Bloomberg News.
