'The Atlas of North American Engllish "by Charles Boberg

Professor of Linguistics(the scientific study of languages and their structure) at McGill University in Montreal writes:

"While it is true that there are subtle phonetic differences in the English spoken in Canadian cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax, these are small compared to the more prominent differences among US regions. Canada's regions, with the esxception of Newfoundland, have much more in common linguistically than US regions."

For folks in London,England,Mary,Merry and Marry are all pronounced the same; as are "gulf "and" golf."

Such nuance(difference in meaning) reminds of the Chinese language in Mandarin,Wu dialect and Cantonese. There are so many similarities and differences as I have observed as a lifelong student of languages with great utility(satisfaction) in economics. Chinese language(Mandarin and Wu) are offered at www.Dictyon.net for reference.

Languages are designed for communications and economics is relevant to all folks so there is the common ground of linkage of Economics and languages.

Americans and other English-speaking folks are encouraged to study Chinese and vice-versa (the other way around) for better understanding for folks in the 21st century apropos of mutual benefit. "A Glimpse of the Chinese Language" in English is hereby dedicated to readers at no cost at www.rand.org for PDF format as a public service.
