"Last year, China's economy ranked second in the world, behind only the United States. NOTE:Two nations should work in unison for humankind in the 21st century. Let us watch the upcoming events in the days to come.

China is providing much-needed support for a continent with such great needs for humanity. Africa is in the news.

Economics for wellbeing apropos of Sino-American Economics. Thanks and have a great day, everyday!

The Dollar is alive and well. I totally concur such reasoning

Washington Post, June 30, 2009 page A12:

Marc Chandler, Chief of currency strategy at the Global Investment Bank Brown Brothers Harriman wrote:

"There is no evidence that central banks have diversified away from the dollar. In the second half of last year, as the financial crisis became acute, China increased its Treasury holdings by more than a third; it continued to amass US currency through the first quarter of this year." Here is concrete evidence of Sino-American Economics with friendship and partnership in globalization. President Hu will attend G-8 meeting in Europe in early July.

"Russia, Brazil and India also have been consistent buyers of US Treasury notes" I would stress the global context of cooperation and collaboration to solve global financial crisis.

Those nations are determined to accumulate financial reserves, and there is no clear alternative to the depth and breadth of the US Treasury market.

I do share such rationale to the fullest extent. Stay good-humored and hold on US Dollars as international currency for a long while. That remains to be seen.

Economics of Human Capital of Health for USA and China as well:

I would add another P. To wit:

HK Phoenix TV reports that Madoff got 150 years sentence in jail. He deserves such as a warning to others that financial crime will be dealt with seriously under US Law. The Judge is an American citizen of Chinese ancestry who came to US from Hong kong at the age of 2.

The Director of China People's Bank,i.e. the Central Bank of China announced cooperation and collaboration of Renmenbi i.e. Chinese currency with Hong Kong Dollars for settling accounts and details shall be worked out during the course of time.

The above would be of interest to Sino-American economics since USA is always concerned about cross-strait relations especially in the field of economics.

Cover Story, as national debt soars - prospect of eventual inflation take flight, boosting interest rates, pummeling dollar. Inflation unlikely to hit until economy perks up! It takes time for the economy to be back on track and patience is required.

How to beat inflation in the long run? We can do well if we change our lifestyles to be simple with no-frill approach as folks in rural USA and farmers in China. Such ways are known to Ben Franklin, Confucius to be compared with Adam Smith of the traditional virtue of frugality. Such ways would then be able to overcome financial crisis in the years to come.

The idea and the ideals are worthy of note if we are serious about handling challenges in the 21st century.

Panics 'R' Us! by Robert J. Samuelson with comments

Washington Post,June 29, 2009 page A17:

"Yale economist Gary Gorton argues that the current crisis did not occur merely because subprime mortgages experienced unexpectedly large losses or even because many of these loans were securitized in complex bonds. The crux of the matter was the failure of the "repo" market. The terms comes from "repurchase agreements" - short term loans(usually overnight) that require the borrower to pledge collateral(usually bonds) in return for cash; the collateral is then "repurchased" by repayment of the loan.

No one knows the size of the repo market; Gorton thinks perhaps $10 trillion at any moment. Banks relied heavily on repo loans, which were routinely renewed. But when doubts arose about banks' subprime securities, the repo market panicked. Loans vanished or became costlier.

In conclusion, Samuelson wrote:"So the next crisis could come from anywhere - perhaps the follies of government, not finance. Between now and 2019, the US federal debt could rise to $11 trillion, projects the Congressional Budget Office. US Treasury bonds are the bedrock of the global financial system; they're considered safe and reliable. What if a glut of bonds causes investors to lose faith? What are the implications? " Such query may not be warranted in light of the supreme clout of US Government.

As far as we know, China, Japan and other nations are still holding US government securities with faith as the reality of global economy.

We must have faith in US government securities as safe and reliable the same way as other nations , private institutions and individuals. We are aware of such TRUST well. Be smart and be mellow under any circumstance!

Positive Signs Spur FED to hold course

Washington Post, June 25, 2009 Page A1 A13:

An economist at California State University said: "It would have taken half a sentence to say 'when the time comes we are ready to exit.'" The economist interprets the omission as evidence that Chairman Ben Bernanke wants the central bank to remain focused on jump-starting the economy. Inflation is unlikely to flare up because there is much slack in the economy, unemployment is expected to rise through 2010 and consumers and businesses are not spending.

Proposed "Zhong Hua Comprehensive Dictionary"

Hong Kong Phoenix TV reports on June 25, 2009 that the President MA of Taiwan would like to promote traditional Chinese characters as traditonal Chinese culture to be compared with the simplified Chinese characters for better understanding of Chinese culture.

Fading of the Dollar's Dominance with recommendations

Washington Post, June 24, 2009 page A19:(For details,please read www.Washpost online)

The International Monetary Fund(IMF) is now set to print $300 billion worth of SDR's - 10 times more than currently exist - for distribution to nations around the globe. They will effectively be held as reserve deposits by each nation's central bank.

C. Fred Bersten,Director of the Peterson Institute of International Economics said: "The dollar is going to lose some of its global status. So maybe it's time we just accepted that."

Some, like Bergsten, have argued the SDR's role should be taken a step further, allowing them to serve as a de facto global reserve currency. Bergsten has advocated, for instance, the idea of nations such as China trading in their dollars for SDR's, allowing for an orderly transition away from the greenback without causing a sharp fluctuation in the dollar's market value.

Such recommendation is similar to China's campaign for a new world monetary order, arguing that the financial crisis has exposed profound vulnerabilities in the US economy and financial system. Moreover, China has taken steps to increase the international role of the yuan i.e. RMB to a level commensurate with China's relatively new status as a major economic power.

World Bank sees slow growth for economy

Washington Post, June 23, 2009 page A13:

Developing nations to be hit hardest.

The global economy is expected to start growing again during the second half of the year but at a pace much more subdued than might normally be the case.

World Bank officials said that if private capital were to return to developing nations, such outcomes could not only be averted but growth in developing nations could give the global economy a much -needed boost.

China's private sector has been expanding and such private sector would provide a contributing factor for global economic recovery.

Recovery's missing ingredient: New Jobs (Published by the Washington Post, June 22, 2009 on page A1)

Confucian values hold that society should be based on well-defined relationships between people both within a family and within the society, and in its essence lie the ideal of harmony and peace.

The popularity of a language is the reflection of the expectation of a promising future of a nation in globalization such as the English language as international language of business in the 20th century and in the 21st century as well. Chinese is in vogue in the 21st century as the result of China's economic status. Cantonese dialect was popular due to Hong Kong's international business success but Wu dialect(Shanghainese) is becoming popular for the same reason especially Shanghai will be the venue for World Expo in 2010.

I received my B.A. in China with studies on Confucianism and earned my M.A. with thesis on Confucianism(Confucius and Mencius) and my Ph.D.'s dissertation entitled "Work and Study Cycle Theory" as part and parcel of Confucianism.

To get a job is to have marketable skills. One can supply the demand of society by having the skill that the society needs in the days to come. Cf. "Keys for Economic Understanding."

I came to USA as a graduate student in 1947 to study American English from coast to coast. English is from Englisc from Angle i.e. folks came to British Isles in the 5th century. English is to be studied by students with tenacity. "Rong ren " two Chinese characters in Pin Yin system of romanization. In other words, learners must have patience and endurance. I started to learn English when I was in the third grade in Shanghai. But I am still a student as an octogenarian now. American English is a part of American culture and economics is also the centerpiece of culture. The effort is valiant and such study is worth pursuing. It is not about the success but the fun to be enjoyed for survival in USA. Friday, June 19, 2009 at Andrews AF Base Library to share my thoughts with readers online. Thank you for your time in reading and have a great weekend to celebrate Father's Day in USA on Sunday,June 21, 2009. Don't worry, be happy, researchers say at NIH: Such rationale is the same as my prior blogs.
"Say "Hello, "get socializing, be joyful! Medical researchers have established a direct link between a buoyant, outgoing personality and better health. " I do believe such friendly inner peace.
"Extroverts - particularly those who are happily engaged in their everyday lives i.e. having dispositional energy or a sense of innate vigor to be intrinsically involved in life such as learning things they enjoy as a therapy." Needless to say, lifestyles and attitudes do have a bearing with longevity. Think about the old days in school as students and you would be happy as professionals now. However, I still feel like a student to learn things on daily basis.

But they still face the formidable opposition of trade groups such as the American Bankers Association. That remains to be seen.

HEADLINE: Obama deepens FED role in markets

Washington Post,June 17, 2009 on page A1:

Umpire or vampire? That is the query of queries.

When we play ball,we need a referee but suppose the referee is unsure then the referee is not really an umpire. However,if there is no referee, who knows the rules and the regulators?Awin-win situation, there is no need of any. Let the market decide the price, any price if it is a free price to be paid by the folks.

Who calls the shots? The buyer or the seller? Let us ponder the refinements to find out if it is freshly baked cookie or otherwise? That is supposed to be a joke. Laugh it off. You got it made when you are kicking the ball. However,if it is a handball, there is no need to kick it but to hold it like an American football not the British soccer. Remember 1812,the British are coming and the Star and Spangled inspired Francis Scott Key to compose such historical song of the nation.

Francis, the admirer of Francis Scott Key and Francis Xavier or Francis Assisi on Wednesday,June 17, 2009 with desultory thoughts above.

A poet is the one who composes poems or spoofs?

National Symphony Orchestra in Shanghai et al

Washington Post, June 17, 2009 on page C1,C8:

NSO found itself Sunday night at the unlikely venue of a conference-center theater in the dusty midsize city of Xi'an (population 8.5 million), where visiting ensembles the size of the NSO are a rare and rather splendid event.

Photo: NSO's Stephen Dumaine shows off his tuba to students at a Shanghai elementary school where some NSO musicians performed.

NSO polishes its act at last stops in China: Photo of Concertmaster Nurit Bar-Josef warms up backstage for the NSO's concert Tuesday in Shanghai.

In Beijing, the orchestra was the guest of the Ministry of Culture, which issued the initial invitation to the NSO in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of US-Chinese diplomatic relations. Dow Chemical has a regional headquarter in Shanghai. NSO musicians played in the atrium of Dow's new Hq. built for 2,000 employees, and then at a bilingual elementary school, its halls lined with bulletin boards pinned full of art projects. The only obvious difference between it and an American elementary school is that when a cellist asked a room full of first and second-graders who could read music, most of them raised their hands. At the end of the event Dow's senior VP James McIlvenny, took the mike and addressed the children, saying he hoped they would all grow up to be scientists or musicians.

I can detect that he would equate musicians and scientists as contributors to Sino-American economics. Music can across the Pacific to entertain folks on both sides of the Pacific.

Page A20: Letter to the Editor from Robert Rosenbaum: When Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner," during the War of 1812, it was unclear whether our then-young nation would survive. His words conveyed an urgent longing that this experiment in a republican form of government would be preserved and that its flag would yet wave.

Francis Shieh: Francis is named after Francis Scott Key with missionary zeal of Francis Xavier or Francis Assisi with faith, hope and charity. My Chinese name is: shihao i.e. hero of poetry. It is known that poems are borderless across the Pacific Ocean with the lyrics that folks would cherish in the minds and hearts for partnership, peace and prosperity.(PPP) But we must also detect Purchasing Power Parity(PPP) apropos of Sino-American Economics. My case rests here for readers to ponder and reflect the very nature of Economics in every shape and form of such studies in terms of globalization.

Fareed Zakaria, editor of Newsweek wrote in the conclusion:

"American capitalism is being rebalanced, reregulated and restored. There is still a long road ahead. There will be many more bankruptcies. Banks will have to slowly earn their way out of their problems or die. Consumers will save more before they start spending again. Mountains of debt will have to be reduced."

Would American consumers save as the Chinese do? The lifestyles are different, indeed! Ethics and morality of Adam Smith, Ben Franklin to be compared with Confucius and Mencius apropos of human capital to be involved in Sino-American economics. That would mean bi-lateral divison of labor for mutual benefit as I focused in "Work and Study Cycle Theory" (1978) Cf. www.Ask.com for reference. Such issue is to be validated and implemented in the US and in China for the wellbeing of humanity re globalization.

Mao & Again: Chinese Warm to distant echo

Washington Post, June 15, 2009 STYLE section: page C1,C5:

The National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing is in the middle of its first opera festival. The event is conceived a scale to match the huge glass-domed building: 13 operas in 79 days involving 10 opera companies, both national(Shanghai Opera) and international(Teatro Regio di Parma), and more than 2,000 artists.

Some of the operas are traditonal Western fare: "La Boheme, ""Rigoletto,""Turandot," But four of them are Chinese, and of these, two are vintage works of socialist realism:"The Red Guards on Honghu Lake" and "Jiang Jie" for "Sister Jiang") which opened on Tursday for a run of three performances by the Art Troupe of the Air Force Political Department of the PLA.

Opera Fans in Beijing show a taste for revolution: Page C5

Its vocal lines -Jiang Jie's part, in particular, which was sung on Friday by Yi Hongyuan - are more nasal, high and piercing than the Western ideal, and, not surprisingly, bear a Chinese pentatonic coloring. Still, this is a traditional number piece, in form more Broadway musical than opera either Chinese or Western, shored up by stirring songs and choruses, arcing lines from a solo violin or full-voiced baying from the orchestra (lead by Jiang Xiebin in full military regalia, as befits an Air Force officer).

Here is the combo of the East and the West in musical arts.

Desultory Remarks on a Sunday aftersoon, June 14,09

At the very moment, I poked about every nook and corner of my reflective soul. I may be baffled but I do have my objective measure of the in-depth search of my life.

It is the spirituality that I feel gratified, but ultimately it was the decision in Shanghai that I had to make to keep moving with courage and to manage what I had lost but also fully appreciate what I could gain: living on the terms with" He li,he fa and he qing." in Pin Yin.

In reading Comics of Family circus: The kids are having a meeting by saying: Know what? Today is yesterday's tomorrow and it's tomorrow's yesterday." Such is the mindset in the positive manner with ideas and ideals. Savvy?

Beijing's Cool Space, Warmest of NSO Sounds with harmony

Beijing, June 12 - The National Symphony Orchestra played its first concert here Thursday night - the second stop of its ongoing 10-day tour of China and South Korea - in a cool, shimmering, predominantly silver theater that is at once traditional and futuristic.
The concert took place at the National Center for the Performing Arts-commonly known as "The Egg" which opened in 2007.

Audience members applaud the NSO concert in Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts.

Fittingly, the first music it played was a new American work, Daniel Kellogg's "Western Skies."

Principal Conductor Ivan Fischer certainly showed that he knew his audience with his selection of the encore. The orchestra brought all its members out onstage and plunged into "Stars and Stripes Forever," accompanied by loud, rhythmic clapping from all over the room.

Francis Scott Key is known to the Chinese audience from American history.

US targets excessive"daliangde" in Pin Yin pay for top executives

Washington Post,June 11, 2009 on page A1: Compensation Czar to oversee firms at heart of crisis:

The Obama administration named a compensation czar to set salaries and bonuses at some of the biggest firms at the heart of the economic crisis, as part of a broader government campaign to reshape pay practices across corporate America.

Such is the topic of distribution of income and wealth in America in Economics classes in the past decades that I taught as an educator in the field of the science of change and choice with wisdom.

The initiative reflects public uproar over executive compensation which has been stoked "tianranliao" in Pin Yin by the financial crisis. Lawmakers who approved the government's $700 billiion bailout for the financial system last fall worried that taxpayers would end up financing the lavish lifestyles of top Wall Street executives.

I have reason to believe that lifestyles are the contributing factor of the economy of any nation as Economics is a behavioral science dealing with human behavior.

The late President Kennedy's words for Americans:"Ask not what the nation can do for you but what you can do for the nation" Such expression would imply non-lavish life style and to have concerns about other less fortunate folks with charity re eleemosynary deeds.

Your feedback would be cordially invited.

Please note: Pin Yin expressions just poped up in my mind for your reference. I have reason to believe that such expression would be interesting for those who do not know Pin Yin and would be refreshing for those who have knowledge of Pin Yin. I hope I am not incorrect in such assumption for fun.

Sequel to Music in search of harmony and peace

Music is the comprehensive art with roots in several cultures, the East and the West do meet in globalization. NSO in China is a clear evidence as published in the STYLE section of the Washington Post, June 10, 2009.

Music started in Churches, a combo of Judaic, Greek, and Middle Eastern traditions.

In Greece, mathematics and music were regarded to have common ground. Pythagoras wrote acoustical discoveries and the refinements of the art of music. The word had scale structures and was translated into Latin as "Modus." Economics may be considered as part of music in terms of rhapsody with nonharmonic tone in the light vein with humor.

Musicians became more active outside the church, they turned to the vernacular for their lingo.

During the 17th and 18th centuries when Italy and its performers were influential throughout Europe. Even today, many famous Italians are great musicians. In USA, many Americans of Italian ancestry happen to be renowned musicians as well.

Marco Polo went to China and appreciated Chinese classical music very much. He lived from 1254? to 1324) He also introduced Chinese big pancake with modified Pizza as the popular food in USA.

In Pin Yin,music is "Yin Yue" for two Chinese characters as art in writing. My son is a musician for his professional expertise as a violist and violinist in the United States. My grandson,at age 6, is playing violin as well.

I am an octogenarian graduate student from Shanghai, China and I am aware of the fact that the Chinese language is a form of art(re calligraphy) and music(4 tones in Mandarin) plus the mellifluous, sweet sounding Wu dialect.(Shanghainese)

Ecology and Health in Sino-American Economics

TO CITE several passages from the Washington Post,June 9, 2009:-

Experts say that unless the United States and China can reach an agreement, it will be difficult to arrive at a new climate change treaty to replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol at a meeting in Copenhagen in six months.

An international studies professor at Beda said there has been a shift in both governments' attitudes in recent months. He said the Obama administration, in contrast to the administration of George W. Buch, accepts international standards on how to measure carbon emission reductions. China recognizes that its future lies with a low-carbon economy.

Deflation or Inflation? That is the query from folks now

Washington Post, June 8, 2009 on page A15:

"Psychology matters." Well,it is the perception and reception as I would envision.

Allan Meltzer of Carnegie Mellon University: "With huge budget deficits, the White House and Congress will want to hold down borrowing costs. Inflation psychology will emerge."

Paul Krugman, Princeton Economist,Columnist for New York Times: Deflation, not inflation, is the clear and present danger. He retorts. Deflation, not inflation.

Well, the simple way is to understand basic Keynesian Model of Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply to be intersecting i.e. Keynesian Cross. Recessionary or contractionary gap is bound to occcur or Inflationary or expansionary gap comes along. That is to be known from future empirical evidence.

Both economists are making assumptions from their own scenarios.

On the same page,Henry Kissinger published an excellent article entitled "Reining in Pyongyang" Such is also a part and parcel of Sino-American Economics.

"America can't achieve a solution to the nuclear problem on its own. A sensitive, thoughtful dialogue with China, rather than peremptory demands,is essential." I do agree with Dr. Kissinger who was a Consultant at the RAND Corporation in 1964-65 when I was a member of the research staff,Department of Economics. Well, that is history but I fully agree with Kissinger's analysis. For details, please read the full text published in the Washington Post today.

National Symphony Orchestra is emissary to China

Washington Post,June 8, 2009 Style section,C1,C8: Music is borderless across the Pacific Ocean.
Classical music has effectively become a symbol of economic prosperity in both countries. For American orchestras, a tour signifies a certain level of financial stabilty. A trip to China, furthermore, is potentially a way to tap into a tremendous new audience to appreciate American culture to strengthen Sino-American economics during the global financial crisis.

In sending instruments to China, the NSO is following a precedent set four centuries ago when the Jesuit missionary Matteo Ricci arrived in Beijing with a clavichord for the emperor in 1601.

Well, I was educated by Jesuits in China and in USA from late 1930s in Tianjin,Shanghai to USF in 1947 and Georgetown from 1948-1950. I have inherited their avid zeal to learn and to teach even as an octogenarian now. Learning is fun and I live to study in USA with an open mind and a warm heart. Life is worth living with the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

However,Georgetown is located in the nation's capital to train foreign service officers near the US government agencies.Georgetown Law School has produced many outstanding lawyers. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates earned his graduate degree in Russian studies decades ago and former Secretary of State M. Alright is on the faculty of Georgetown.

Page 7. Ronald McKinnon, Professor of International Economics,Stanford University wrote: "Special Drawing Rights (SDRs are viewed as illiquid assets and financial system is inherently fragile." (sic) Such scenario does not seem to be positive at all. Liquidity is known in Keynesian economics.

The US-China bilateral strategic economic conference will take place on July 27-28 in Washington,DC and such topic will be discussed as I would envision.

The leading director of People's Bank of China Zhou Xiaochuan and Economist Richard Cooper appear to be in the same vein for considering SDR as a world currency but SDR is not in the private market. More in-depth studies should be done for future reference.

Since Hong Kong Dollar and Chinese currency Renminbi (RMB) can be exchanged freely and Hong Kong is known in the West as a free trading city,it would be timely to think about HK$ in the private market by authorities in the USA and in China for future reference as a super sovereign world money if feasible with rules and regulations for international trade. Such idea is just a thought.

I would like to add brown color for all folks in USA with all colors as Americans by face value. Such value is the value as folks see it with an image of positive or negative value.

POTATO By John Reader, a newly published book for all

REFLECTIONS:

The Appeal of the Spud: A book on Food as a necessity for survival in China and in USA: We must have food to keep body and soul together in the mundane world.
Yale University 315 pp. $28. Recommended reading for readers as

"Centric history of the world" and "a delicious and a persuasive dish" as economics of human capital. We must eat as Confucius stated categorically that food is one of the natural desires of homosapiens. The other desire is known for all humans.

The Irish potato famine of the mid-19th century - known in Ireland as "The Great Hunger" is the centerpiece of such book. Many folks came to USA as immigrants from Ireland as I learned at Georgetown University as a graduate student in 1948-1950. Numerous American Jesuits, administrators and graduate students of Irish ancestry are members at Georgetown. I have always cherished their friendship such as Reverend Coolahan,S.J., Rev. Brian A. McGrath,S.J.,Registrar Joe Connors and his assistant John V. Quinn, plus attorney Joe Crumlish as my old classmate in a Graduate Philosophy class that I still remember vividly.

In China, such food is called "Tu dou" i.e. "bean from the soil" in Pin Yin system of romanization for two Chinese characters. I eat "Tu dou" in China and Potato in USA especially the mashed form of potato("daochenghuzhuang" OR "Tudouni" i.e. paste-like shape of the bean from soil. Some folks call such food informally as "tudouni" or literally smashed(posuide)i.e. broken potato for fun.

Francis Shieh aka Xie Shihao tries to recollect the good old days more than six decades ago from 1948 to 2009. Time goes fast like an e-mail. All readers will be centenarians in the years to come in the 21st century.

"No Laughing Matter" Washington Post,June 5,2009

"US needs to get serious now about long-term budget deficits" Headlines in the Editorial. Trade deficit should be added as well! How to tackle both deficits? There is no pat answers.

"It was a sign of the times that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner had to travel to China to reassure China, the world's largest holder of Treasury debt, that lending money to the US government is still a wise thing to do. But the European governments are more fiscally prudent for China's search for investment in global markets." Such may be a wake-up call. COMPETITION is the name of the game.

Page 6: "Obama's words resonate abroad: "May God's peace be upon you - rings with authenticity to Arabic ears." President Obama's words may ring with American ears to have good faith in terms of ethics and morality.

When Americans lend ears to President Obama with spirituality instead of over-extended material consumption, our fiscal problems may be gradually resolved. However,in the meantime, jobless folks will have to be more frugal and be trained to find new jobs with newly acquired skills via training in community colleges to become taxpayers to resolve fiscal problems. Uncle Sam needs more workers to be taxpayers to generate revenue in the 21st century.

Francis Shieh aka Xie Shihao looking forward to have peace and economic development from good peoples in all nations.AMEN!

Conscience and Consciousness:Morality to be awakened

REFLECTIONS with MEDITATION and CONTEMPLATION on daily basis for all readers:

We do have our sense to detect the motives of action to be linked with mental faculties. Do we?

It is reported in the Chinese newspaper:"World Daily" that Chinese leaders are reading "The Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith and Adam Smith was a professor of moral philosophy even though he is known to be an eminent economist.

Confucianism is inculcated in the minds and hearts of folks in China from family tradition and Chinese culture.

There is the meeting ground of the East and the West for honoring globalization in re morality and ethics in the discipline of eoonomics. Do we quantify such? Not really! Economics is not Mathematics even though we do data to find out facts with figures. But there is a lag and discrepancy, indeed. We are unable to measure the things with accuracy. I am a disciple of Professor John Kenneth Galbraith.

When American and Chinese leaders are paying attention to ethics and morality in the name of humanity for globalization, the future can be assured with holy peace and sacred wisdom.

The principles to live by:

1.Peace with love to all folks with humility.

2.Respect others as the sacred homosapiens on planet.

3.Learn much from daily happenings with enthusiasm or eager interest.

Geithner will make contribution to advancing Sino-American economic and financial cooperation and the growth of the US-China relationships. Such mission is not untrue.

In re data: China holds circa $768 billion of US Treasury securities as the biggest creditor. It is clear that China has faith in USA for mutual benefit.

It is expected that a wide range topics of bilateral, regional, and global areas will be covered as focus for the upcoming strategic conference. In other words, overall plans for international political economies would be touched as issues of mutual concern for USA and China.

The dates are set for July 27 and July 28,2009 in Washington,DC. Media will cover detals of such important conference of Sino-American economics in globalization.

Page A7: According to Global Peace Index,New Zealand is rated most peaceful followed by Demark,Norway, Japan and Canada. Cuba, China,Peru and Ukraine are rated more peaceful than the USA due to large prison population in the United States to be rated as 83rd. In good conscience,I pay no attention about such arbitrary rating and biased ranking.

According to Hong Kong Phoenix TV reports,US Chambler of Commerce Director is very supportive of direct flights between the mainland and Taiwan as positive economic development for cross-strait relations. Peace and economic development are the goals of USA and China including Taiwan under the leadership of Ma.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised China's economic accomplishments and she cited Bishop Aloysius Jin, S.J. of Shanghai as the evidence of religious freedom.

As a product of Jesuit education in China and in the United States,I have reason to believe that she would regard Jesuits are Jesuits with the same goal of AMDG and IHS with spirituality and educational endeavor in their minds and hearts.

Dennis Menos wrote to the editor of Washington Post,June 2, 2009 on page A14:

"President Obama's statement accusing North Korea of a violation of international law would have carried greater weight had the US provided leadership in the areas of nuclear nonproliferation by ratifying the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Senate ratification of the treaty would go a long way toward demonstrating to the world, and especially to nuclear proliferation such as North Korea and Iran, that the United States finds nuclear testing to be abhorrent and a crime against future generations." Such statement is worthy of our understanding.

Geithner says: China Confident in USA

Washington Post, June 3, 2009 on page A15:

Geithner said China's leaders believe in the basic resilience and dynamism of the US economy. I agree in toto in every respect as a student of economics in China since 1943.

"What I sense is a fair amount of confidence, not just in the basic underlying strength and resilience of the US economy, its dynamism, but in our capacity not just to solve this crisis, get growth back on track, but to go back to living within our means." Geithner further added," I believe the Chinese expect the dollar to be the principal reserve currency for a long period of time, as do we." There is the common perception and reception of Sino-American Economics.

US dollar has been considered as an international currency in businesses up to the 21st century and beyond... Let us hope so from empirical evidence.

Page A19: Harold Meyerson wrote:"In explaining China's rise and America's decline, historians may well note that capitalism-American capitalism, anyway - far from spreading democracy, actually has played a key role in transforming China into an economic superpower. The transfer of manufacturing from the United States to China - driven by the rise of mega-retailer such as Wal-Mart that have been able to endorce a regime of low wages all along their global supply chains - has diminished our middle class and expanded theirs." Such is known to all folks as evidence.

Hummer's Home: China, the New Land of Excess!? General motors will sell Hummer to heavy-equipment manufacturer in China, reportedly for less than $500 million,
well below its peak value. What is value anyway? Such definition is subject to individual volition of change and choice!

Page B5: Nobel Economist helped uncover problems with standard models:

Clive Granger, 2003 Nobel Prize for economics re his iconoclastic view about how his profession using figures to predict the future. Although he was considered a Keynesian that holds deficit spending by governments can be beneficial but he was willing to challenge orthodoxy as he looked for relationships among economic factors. The variable factors are up for grabs by economists in lighter thought.

Dr. Granger poked fun at himself when the Web site showed him sitting on a motorcycle with the caption:"Rebel Withouit a Causal Model."(sic)

I have sent my blogs in the past apropos of "A Posteriori" Versus "A Priori". Such Latin words to mean cause and effect would be the so-called Model in Economics?! US Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner sought to reassure China, America's biggest creditor, that its hundreds of billions of dollars of holdings in US government debt remain safe, even as investors dumped Treasurys amid signs that the global recession is easing.

The United States is committed to a strong and stable international financial system, and the Obama administration fully recognizes that the US has a special responsibility to play in this regards, and we fully appreciate that exercising this special responsibility begins at home."
